• Feature. The pendulous racemes of kiss me over the garden gate are similar to some varieties of amaranth. Flowers are usually purple in color. Leaves are slightly hairy and ovate.
• Sow. You can start the seeds under a cold frame, or indoors about two months before the average last frost. Press the seeds lightly into the soil, and thin seedlings to about 18 inches apart.
• Use. Kiss me over the garden gate adds visual oomph to the back of the border. The flowers are a welcome addition to the cutting garden for adding mass and height to arrangements.
• Sun. The plant is better grown in full sun conditions to help plants remain sturdy and prevent them from flopping.
• Soil. Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate will grow in rich, well-drained soil. It can also tolerate poor soil as long as it is not too wet.
• Bloom period. The plants take about 100 days to produce their first flowers after sowing. Often beginning to bloom in midsummer, this annual will continue to bloom until fall.
• Fast-Growing. When the weather warms up, the plants grow very quickly, eventually reaching a mature height of five to seven feet, rewarding gardeners with blooms from early summer to first frost.
• Pollinators-Friendly. Plant it and you will see beneficial pollinators, such as hummingbirds, butterflies and bees flying happily around the beautiful blooms.
