• Feature. Once mature, boneset sports masses of tiny, fluffy, white flowers grouped in flat-topped clusters (known as "corymbs"). Plant it in late summer or early fall.
• Sow. Start Boneset seed directly outside in spring after the danger of frost has passed. Prepare a seedbed, tamp the seed into the soil and cover with only 1/16 inch of soil. Keep the seed moist. With a temperature range of 70 – 85F, germination is usually within 21 days.
• Soil. Boneset thrives in conditions like soggy clay soil, which can be too challenging for most other plants to grow in. Consider using it in a rain garden or a woodland garden setting where the soil is constantly on the wet side.
• Use. Eupatorium perfoliatum is an herbaceous perennial that favors wet and low-lying areas. It is an ideal shrub for rain, woodland, and herb gardens. Its flowers can also be made into cut flowers.
• Attract wildlife. If you’d like to attract wildlife, boneset is a fantastic plant to cultivate close to your water features. Songbirds, bees, butterflies, and insects find its fragrant blooms hard to resist.
